About the Book
In patriarchal societies, women are subjected to subordination on a daily basis, irrespective of their class. Women have historically been treated as the "other," who required control, subordination, and differential treatment. This gender inequality extends across various facets of life including economic security, health, personal safety, and political rights. Women and young girls experience these issues in distinct ways, largely due to physical, emotional, and material differences that arise from entrenched socio-economic and political inequalities between men and women.
Despite constitutional provisions and affirmative action intended to establish gender equality, women continue to face a range of challenges, especially when it comes to violence and rape, which have sparked widespread public protests and debates about improving women’s safety. This book analyzes the multifaceted issues concerning women in contemporary society, examining the gender-based violence, media representations, and literary reflections on the topic.
It is a valuable resource for scholars interested in gender studies, media studies, and sociology, offering important insights into women's rights, equality, and empowerment.
