About the Book:
The rapid spread of sexually transmitted infections (STIs), sexually transmitted diseases (STDs), and HIV/AIDS poses serious health hazards that transcend geographical boundaries, affecting both Eastern and Western societies alike. The prevalence of these diseases is deeply influenced by various socio-economic, ecological, cultural, and religious factors, as well as sexual preferences, medical interventions, and migration patterns.
This book focuses on understanding how the socio-cultural and economic environment of southern Rajasthan shapes the sexual lives of its tribal population. It examines how change-generating agencies and mechanisms have exposed these tribal communities to the dangers of STDs, resulting in not only socio-cultural challenges but also politico-economic hardships. The study highlights the difficult and often miserable lives of tribal individuals affected by these diseases, stressing the broader implications of health crises on marginalized communities.
This work will be of great significance not just for sociologists and anthropologists, but also for health practitioners, policy makers, social activists, and public administrators working towards better health outcomes and social empowerment for vulnerable populations.
