About the Book
The Way of the World is a play by English playwright William Congreve, first premiered in early March 1700 at the theatre in Lincoln’s Inn Fields, London. Widely regarded as one of the finest examples of Restoration comedy, the play explores themes of love, marriage, and societal norms with wit and satire. Initially, however, the play was met with criticism from many audience members, who saw it as continuing the "immorality" of previous decades. Despite its initial lukewarm reception, it has since become a classic of English literature, still occasionally performed today for its sharp dialogue, complex characters, and clever commentary on human nature.
