About the Book

This comprehensive volume presents an in-depth analysis of the multi-faceted approach required to build and sustain smart cities in India. Drawing from a wide array of interdisciplinary literature and ground-level research, the book covers the critical pillars of smart city development, including management, governance, policy, technological innovation, community engagement, infrastructure development, and environmental sustainability.

Structured across five detailed sections, it explores challenges and opportunities in urbanization, examines the use of ICT, GIS, and remote sensing for city planning, and delves into energy, disaster management, and sustainable growth. Special focus is also given to water management, transport infrastructure, healthcare, urban mobility, environmental concerns, and inclusive urban development.

The content is both theoretical and practical, offering valuable insights for scholars, government officials, urban planners, policy makers, and research students involved in the smart city mission. It reflects the emerging discourse and ongoing efforts to balance technological advancement with social equity and environmental stewardship in urban India.

With contributions from more than 80 researchers and case studies from various Indian cities, this book serves as a critical academic and practical resource for understanding the evolving landscape of smart urban development.
