About the Book
This compelling volume explores the enduring appeal of anthropology—the quest to understand human life, evolution, and culture across time and geography. Designed especially for students and scholars, the book offers a rich collection of essays by renowned experts in both physical and social anthropology.
The first section delves into significant palaeoanthropological insights, tracing key stages in human evolution. It includes detailed anatomical studies of femur, neck, and shaft angles in modern humans, revealing geographical and environmental influences. A notable restudy of the Saldanha endocranial cast also features here, alongside an analysis of the human genome’s role in combating disease. This section critically reflects on the importance of physical anthropology teaching and research in India.
The second section addresses pivotal sociocultural issues, including the global discourse on preserving family values and structures, the lingering influence of colonialism on Indian society, and the enduring legacy of British bureaucracy. Methodological perspectives on Indian diaspora studies add further depth.
Comprehensive, interdisciplinary, and insightful, this book is an essential resource for students, educators, and researchers in anthropology.
