About the Book
South Asian Diaspora Narratives: Roots and Routes delves into the metaphysical and poetical processes of ‘rooting into a culture’ and ‘routing out of a culture’. These diasporic narratives are often marked by dislocated identities, existing in the liminal space between two identities, cultures, and histories. Despite the dislocation, the notion of ‘home’ remains central through acts of imagination, memory, and re-creation, creating a crucial reference point for the diasporic individual.
This book highlights the need for a clearer understanding of the politics of location to differentiate the various forms of dislocation immigrants face, both psychologically and sociologically. By incorporating a wide range of works from historical, anthropological, sociological, cultural, and literary studies, this volume fills an essential gap in South Asian Diaspora studies.
