About the Book
This book offers a comprehensive overview of the family structure in contemporary India, focusing on its changing dynamics and the influence of demographic processes. J.P. Singh's work initiates a long-overdue dialogue between anthropology, sociology, and demography, examining how these fields intersect within the Indian context.
The book is a collection of research papers that were originally published in renowned journals or presented at international seminars and workshops. These papers have been thoroughly updated and reorganized to reflect the latest data and trends, creating a coherent thematic structure that bridges the gap between family structure and demographic processes in India. Topics explored include the impact of marital practices, family dissolution, and state interventions.
It provides insights into the changing family dynamics and offers valuable perspectives on issues such as marriage, fertility behavior, and the challenges faced by families in both rural and urban settings. Scholars, students, professionals working with families, and anyone interested in family studies in India will find this book to be an essential resource.
