About the Book
The concept of regions and their role in contemporary societies is widely debated. Uneven development and increasing inequalities have compelled scholars, analysts, and policymakers to reconsider the approach to development from a regional standpoint.
This book is a compilation of select papers presented at the First Northern Regional Social Science Congress held in 2013 in Jaipur. It provides a regional perspective on society and development, covering various developmental challenges in the Northern Region. The papers take an interdisciplinary approach, covering a wide range of social issues, including:
-
The inclusion of minorities
-
The changing village economy
-
Gender and health
-
Labour and migration
-
Governance issues
-
Urbanization from different disciplinary perspectives
Illustrated with numerous case studies, the book offers valuable insights into these complex topics, engaging both seasoned social scientists and emerging researchers. The contributors, including established scholars and young social scientists, provide a comprehensive exploration of the region's development issues.
The book is a crucial resource for academics, researchers, policy makers, and development practitioners, helping to deepen the understanding of regional social science research and its practical applications.
