About the Book
Social Work Skills explores the essential skills needed by social workers to become effective practitioners and how these skills can be perfected and transferred across various contexts. This updated edition of a best-selling text is written by an experienced academic-practitioner and incorporates current educational policy and practice within social work. The book provides detailed descriptions of over fifty social work skills, including case examples to illustrate their practical applications. By naming and demonstrating these skills, the book underscores the importance of an evidence-based, research-led approach to social work practice.

The edition also includes new material on:

  • Social work methods, practice approaches, and perspectives

  • The knowledge base of social work and the relationship between theory and practice

  • The effective application of the terms "skill" and "intervention" in practice

This book emphasizes that social work is a highly skilled, intellectual activity requiring a "toolbox" of skills to address complex and unpredictable human experiences. It serves as essential reading for social work students and a valuable reference for practicing social workers and human service professionals.
