About the Book
This book focuses on the significant changes in the social structure of Scheduled Castes in Maharashtra due to the government’s reservation policy. As a result of acquiring higher education, these communities have achieved respectable positions in government and non-government sectors, leading to the emergence of a new elite class comprising intellectual, administrative, professional, and political elites.

These elites, predominantly residing in urban areas, have integrated into upper-caste society and raised their position within the caste hierarchy. The book explores how these elite Scheduled Castes have begun adopting socio-cultural patterns that were once reserved for higher castes and how their social interaction patterns have evolved over time.

This study investigates the social attitudes and interactions of the Scheduled Caste elites in urban Maharashtra, particularly their changing relationships with upper castes and other non-Scheduled Castes. The book also highlights the growing social divide, as these educated elites have distanced themselves from their less fortunate relatives still struggling with poverty, intensifying social disparities.
