About the Book
This book is a rich collection of surveys, introductions, essays, reviews, and interviews that provide a unique insight into the literary culture of Orissa. It focuses on the region’s lesser-known but deeply significant literary heritage, offering a detailed window to some key cultural figures, historical moments, and issues that have shaped Oriya literature.
The pieces in this volume break the common misconception that Oriya literature is static or irrelevant, demonstrating how both traditional and contemporary Oriya literature have been enriched by numerous extraordinary voices. Through the lens of these perspectives, works by influential authors like Sarala Das, Jagannath Das, Fakir Mohan Senapati, Gopinath Mohanty, Kalindi Charan Panigrahi, Sachi Rautray, Basanta Kumari, Jayanta Mahapatra, Ramakanta Rath, Sitakant Mahapatra, and Pratibha Ray are recognized as masterpieces not only of Oriya or Indian literature but also of world literature. The volume offers a profound analysis of their cultural impact, showcasing the deep connections between their works and the global literary scene.
This book will be of immense value to both specialists and general readers interested in understanding the diverse and vibrant literary tradition of Orissa.
