About the Book:
Ravigupta's Aryakosa is one of the most significant and valuable texts among the eight Niti works translated into Tibetan. Comprising 145 stanzas, most of which, except for the last, were composed in the Arya metre, the text earned its name from this poetic form. The work is preserved only in its Tibetan translation, which was completed in the ninth century AD and later included in the Tanjur. Prof. Michael Hahn began his study of the text in 1981, but he did not publish it due to unresolved issues. After the publication of the Sanskrit text of Ravigupta's Lokasamvyavaharapravrtti, Prof. Hahn was able to find Sanskrit originals for all but two verses of the Aryakosa. This volume presents the text based on Prof. Hahn's edition and English translation, featuring the Tibetan version of the Aryakosa alongside the Sanskrit originals from Lokasamvyavaharapravrtti and their English translations.
