Details:
This unique book on public policy by Lok-sang Ho delves into the critical role of human nature in shaping effective policies. By understanding human behavior, policymakers can anticipate public responses and avoid unintended consequences. The book offers fresh perspectives on public interest, drawing on intellectual foundations from J.S. Mill, Harsanyi, and Rawls.
Through an examination of key policy areas like healthcare, tort law reform, education, and pension policy, Ho introduces an innovative, ex-ante welfare increase criterion. This criterion challenges traditional economic models and provides a fairer, more impartial way of assessing policy impacts.
The book also outlines proposals for healthcare reform, advocating for a basic protection plan that balances choice, protection, and fiscal sustainability. With compelling insights and bold proposals, this book is an essential read for policymakers, economists, and anyone interested in the future of public policy.
