About the Book:

"Population-Environment Nexus" presents the complexities of the relationship between population growth, resource consumption, and environmental degradation. With an increasing global population, urbanization, and industrialization, human actions are causing significant transformations in ecosystems, leading to the depletion of natural resources. This volume, based on the seminar held at the International Institute for Population Sciences (IIPS), Mumbai in October 2005, addresses the critical issues of population-environment interaction.

The book explores:

  • Population and Environmental Linkages: Understanding how population dynamics contribute to environmental changes.

  • Food, Water, and Sanitation: Exploring the crucial issues of resource availability and sustainability in the face of population growth.

  • Urban Environment and Disaster: How the centralization of populations in mega cities exacerbates environmental pollution and risks.

  • Household Environment and Health: The influence of population density and environmental factors on public health.

While the book doesn't claim to solve the complexities of this issue, it aims to foster a deeper understanding of the multifaceted nature of the population-environment interface, with specific focus on India.
