About the Book
In a world increasingly torn between the poles of exclusive nationalism and global internationalism, this book presents a timely philosophical inquiry into the idea of human unity. Drawing inspiration from Sri Aurobindo’s profound insights, the author explores the evolution of human collectivities—from primitive social units to sophisticated political systems, ultimately culminating in the ideal of spiritual internationalism. Through this lens, the book critically examines how unity, a cherished ideal across civilizations, must be pursued not through forced uniformity, but through an embrace of diversity and spiritual evolution.
A key feature of this work is its nuanced understanding of Sri Aurobindo’s distinction between the ‘national-ego’ and the ‘national-soul’, offering a deep critique of contemporary nationalism. In doing so, it challenges surface-level reforms and argues for the inner transformation of society to bring about true and lasting unity. It emphasizes that intellectual debates or external structures alone cannot replace the spiritual foundation needed to realize the ideal of a New World Order.
Topics such as the Philosophy of Indianness, Nationalism, Internationalism, and Human Unity are revisited with fresh perspectives that align with Sri Aurobindo’s spiritual framework. This book is especially relevant for scholars and students of political philosophy, nationalism studies, and spiritual sociology, and for anyone seeking a meaningful alternative to the prevailing narratives of power and politics.
