About The Book
I Shall Never Ask for Pardon is the powerful memoir of Pandurang Khankhoje, a revolutionary whose determination to end British colonial rule took him across the globe. Khankhoje recognized early on that life under British rule was intolerable, and his actions caught the attention of the colonial authorities, forcing him to flee India.

Trained in explosives and warfare, Khankhoje roamed from country to country, seeking out like-minded revolutionaries in his quest to oust British domination. He became a founding member of the radical Ghadar Party in America, tirelessly working to gather followers sympathetic to his cause. His journey led him to Japan, America, Persia, Germany, Russia, and finally to Mexico, where he found a surprising refuge that felt oddly similar to his own homeland. In Mexico, he started a family, turned his focus to agriculture, and became an international expert in high-yielding food crops, especially a new variety of corn.

Though he found peace in his new life, Khankhoje’s heart always yearned to return to India. It would take forty years before he could finally set foot on his homeland again, but he lived to see India’s freedom before his death. In this deeply personal narrative, his daughter, Savitri Sawhney, uses his diaries to resurrect the voice of this previously silent hero and brings to light his invaluable contributions to India’s freedom struggle.

This book provides an intimate look at the life of a revolutionary who sacrificed everything for India’s freedom and whose legacy, though long overshadowed, is now brought into the light.
