About the Book

The Manusmriti is an ancient sacred text that unreservedly glorifies Brahmanical caste oppression and the degradation of women. For a long time, this text has been used as a fundamental religious doctrine to oppress and suppress the so-called lower-caste people. However, in 20th-century India, we have seen leaders of the Hindutva movement, such as Savarkar and Golwalkar, repeatedly praise the Manusmriti. According to Savarkar, the creator of the term Hindutva, the Manusmriti is “the most worshipped religious scripture of India,” and “has codified our culture, customs, thoughts, and practices, contributing to the spiritual and divine progress of our nation.” Similarly, Golwalkar claims that Manu was the first, greatest, and most enlightened lawgiver to humankind.

The Hindutva forces that uphold these views are currently in power in India. Not only are they denying the fundamental principles of our Constitution, but they are also questioning its very existence. The authoritarian activities of this power-hungry, aggressive regime, which believes in muscle flexing, are gradually eroding the credibility of all constitutional institutions. By analyzing the current political trajectory of India, it can at least be said that the majority of the country's people continue to resist these divisive forces in their struggle.

Despite this, this reckless force remains in power. This book aims to raise awareness about the dangers posed by the rise of such fundamentalist fascist powers in the once secular India and to help generate public opinion to ensure the defeat of these forces.
