About The Book:
Manusher Mato Manush is the Bengali translation of Boris Polevoi's acclaimed biographical narrative The Story of a Real Man, one of the finest works of Soviet literature. The story follows the life of Alexei Petrovich Maresyev, a Soviet fighter pilot during World War II. On April 4, 1942, during a Nazi attack, the plane he was flying was destroyed, and although he lost both of his legs, he miraculously survived.
After recovering, Maresyev returned to fight for his country and humanity in June 1943. Despite his disability, he piloted a fighter plane, using prosthetic legs. He flew 86 combat missions and destroyed 11 Nazi aircrafts. His bravery and love for his country fueled his courage. Later, he was honored with the highest Soviet military decorations.
This heroic tale of determination and resilience is the central theme of the story. The book also inspired an opera composed by the famous Russian composer Sergei Prokofiev, which was first performed at the Leningrad Opera House on December 3, 1948
