After securing a first-class degree, he appeared for the Maharashtra Public Service Commission competitive examination and was selected for the Maharashtra Service of Engineers. His illustrious career includes working as an Assistant Engineer, Executive Engineer, Superintending Engineer, Chief Engineer, Director General, and finally, Executive Director in various government corporations and institutes, particularly in the Water Resources Department.

Throughout his career, Shri Shinde played a key role in the planning, execution, and maintenance of several major irrigation projects, applying both technical expertise and social insight. His wealth of experience also led him to author technical papers on a variety of subjects related to his field.
