About the Book
Corporate Social Responsibility in India: A Critical Understanding offers a deep dive into the paradoxes and complexities of Indian business practices, especially in relation to corporate social responsibility (CSR). The book critically examines the encounter between traditional Indian practices (indigeneity) and Western modernity, exploring how businesses in India have contributed to both social causes and, at the same time, engaged in practices that have raised ethical concerns, such as labor rights violations, environmental damage, and corruption.
The book:
-
Explores the paradox of Indian businesses: their historical philanthropic contributions contrasted with contemporary issues like human rights violations and environmental degradation.
-
Examines CSR practices in India and their adaptation to global CSR standards, while critiquing their underlying motivations and implications.
-
Presents a critical analysis of CSR from a post-colonial perspective, providing a unique lens on corporate responsibility in a developing country context.
This work is part of the Contemporary Themes in Business and Management series and will be of interest to scholars and practitioners in fields like international business, management studies, economics, post-colonial management, organizational studies, and CSR.
