About the Book
Globalization has reshaped how humanity is organized and interconnected, evolving from single families to tribes, city-states, nations, and now, the 'global village'—a concept where nations and peoples of the world are highly interdependent. This book offers a comprehensive review of the literature surrounding globalization, coupled with the author's critical commentary on the subject.
While globalization is often perceived, especially in the Third World, as a political strategy by industrialized nations to exploit poorer countries, the author emphasizes that globalization, in itself, is neither inherently positive nor negative. Its ultimate impact on people's well-being hinges on several unresolved factors.
Through this work, Dasgupta adds a human dimension to the discourse on globalization, suggesting that to humanize globalization, individuals and collectivities must participate in the struggle for social justice. This ethical obligation is pivotal for a fair global future. The book serves as an invaluable resource for those studying the effects of globalization, offering fresh perspectives beyond conventional discourse.
