About the Book
"Asia: A Contemporary Geographical Survey" presents a comprehensive and systematic study of the Asian continent—its physical landscapes, cultural patterns, political divisions, and economic activities—with a special focus on the modern-day realities that shape the region.
Over the past four decades, Asia has undergone transformative changes in demographics, urbanisation, economic growth, and geopolitical dynamics. This book captures these shifts through:
-
Detailed physical geography—climate, terrain, and natural resources.
-
Human and cultural landscapes—population trends, languages, religions, and settlement patterns.
-
Economic activities—agriculture, fishing, minerals, energy, and industrial growth.
-
Regional divisions—in-depth coverage of Southwest Asia, South Asia, Southeast Asia, East Asia, and Central Asia.
Illustrated with up-to-date statistical tables and carefully designed maps, the text reflects the author’s three decades of experience as a traveller, researcher, and educator in Asian geography.
Intended for students, educators, and general readers, it serves as both an academic resource and an engaging introduction to Asia’s diversity and complexity.
