About the Book
In a rapidly globalising world, economic changes are not only transforming financial structures but also deeply influencing cultural and social dynamics. Gender and Globalisation: Issues and Challenges, edited by Rekha Pande, Sita Vanka, and S. Jeevanandam, is a powerful scholarly contribution that examines the complex intersections between gender, development, and globalisation. The essays in this volume explore how liberalisation, privatisation, and the expansion of global markets have both empowered and marginalized women across different regions.
This collection presents a diverse and critical analysis of globalisation's impact on gender roles, labour markets, education, politics, technology, and rural development. Some essays highlight how access to ICT and global trade has opened new economic avenues for women, while others emphasize how structural inequalities continue to persist. Topics range from women in climate-affected regions of Nigeria, economic cooperatives in China, to political participation in Indian Panchayati Raj institutions and female workforce trends in the ICT and education sectors.
By featuring case studies from India, Nigeria, Azerbaijan, and China, this book offers a global perspective on feminist concerns and development challenges. It encourages readers to rethink traditional development models and calls for more inclusive policies that promote gender equity at all levels. Ideal for scholars, policy-makers, and students of gender studies, development studies, and globalisation, this book provides invaluable insights into contemporary socio-economic issues.
