About the Book:

This book explores the evolution of worldviews in philosophy and social sciences after the Enlightenment era, focusing on three major perspectives: liberalism, socialism, and ethical humanism. While socialism is largely sidelined today, liberalism has evolved into neoliberalism, which has contributed to numerous global issues such as inequality, terrorism, environmental degradation, and lifestyle diseases. As a response, social scientists like Amartya Sen and Joseph Stiglitz now advocate for ethical humanism.

Gandhi's relevance in the 21st century is emphasized, arguing that his philosophy is even more vital today than it was in the early 20th century. Gandhi, essentially an ethical humanist, drew inspiration from thinkers like Immanuel Kant, Ruskin, Emerson, Thoreau, and Tolstoy. However, Gandhi's approach also integrated ideas from Vedanta, Jain pluralism (anekantvad), and Buddha's "Samyak Darshan" (Right View). The book provides a comprehensive understanding of Gandhian humanism and presents a pathway for a new world order in the 21st century through changes at individual, cultural, and institutional levels.
