About the Book
Rajasthan, the largest state in India, is a land where tradition and modernity coexist, marked by stunning palaces, forts, and a rich history of valor, sacrifices, and battles. Known as Rajpootana in earlier times, Rajasthan is also recognized as the birthplace of grassroots democracy in India. This book offers an in-depth exploration of Rajasthan’s history, culture, and social transformation, presented through 33 articles and short notes.
The book provides a multi-faceted look at Rajasthan, including its past and present, from its early agricultural and metallurgical centers, the arrival of the Rajputs, to the influence of British rule. It examines the origin and evolution of tribal communities, people’s movements, and the eventual merger of princely states into the modern state of Rajasthan. Special sections delve into the history of Amber and the creation of Jaipur under Sawai Jai Singh.
This informative and engaging collection will be a valuable resource for historians, sociologists, students, researchers, and general readers fascinated by Rajasthan's cultural and historical richness. Whether you're a layman or an expert, the book offers an accessible yet detailed exploration of this enchanting land.
