Synopsis:
Bengali literature’s beloved wanderer Neel Lohit never ages beyond 27. In Satyi Mithyer Majhkhane, he finds himself perplexed by the piercing question of a ten-year-old girl, Rupsa—“Neel Kaka, where is my mother?” Rupsa’s mother, Bandanadi, abandoned her and disappeared to Dikshunyapur. To everyone, she is either missing or presumed dead. Overcome by Rupsa’s longing, Neel takes her to Dikshunyapur, where mother and daughter reunite in a dreamlike, tearful moment.
The second story, Bishwas Karun Chai Na-i Karun, takes a different turn. After suffering a serious accident, Neel Lohit loses consciousness, and his subconscious mind weaves a bizarre story featuring Bollywood actress Rani Mukherjee. Along with his friend Rupam, Rani, and her companion Saheli, Neel is abducted. The novel unfolds as a thrilling yet romantic adventure, revealing how they eventually escape.
About the Author:
Neel Lohit is a fictional alter ego of Sunil Gangopadhyay, portrayed as a free-spirited young man who never ages beyond 27. A jobless wanderer with no intention of finding work, Neel explores places unknown to many. Sometimes he is seen at a music concert, sometimes chasing a lost kite, sometimes deep in the jungle, at Bengali feasts, or even in foreign lands. Though he tells lies, they are harmless white lies, never dark deceptions. He meets countless people yet blends seamlessly into crowds, making him elusive. Occasionally, he even encounters Sunil Gangopadhyay himself.
