- Born: 2 November 1935, Bikrampur, Dhaka District
- Early Life: Spent in various locations due to his father’s railway job, including Kolkata, Bihar, North Bengal, East Bengal, and Assam during World War II.
- Education: Completed I.A. from Victoria College, followed by B.A. and postgraduate studies at Kolkata University.
- Career: Began as a school teacher, later transitioned to journalism, and is associated with Anandabazar Patrika.
- Literary Debut: First story in Desh magazine; first novel Ghūṇpōkā.
- Notable Works: Manojder Adbhut Bari (first children's novel), Manabjamin (recipient of the 1989 Sahitya Akademi Award).
