Book Description

"Agyatbas" is a lighthearted yet captivating novel by Sanjib Chattopadhyay, offering readers a peek into a peculiar household filled with eccentric characters and humorous situations. The story is narrated through the eyes of Pradyumna, or Buro, a young member of the household who provides a funny and insightful perspective on the events happening around him.

The house itself is a bizarre world — inhabited by an assortment of creatures, including eight dogs, eighteen cows, three birdcages, and a dozen cats. Among the household members are Doctor Boro Mama, Professor Mejo Mama, and a variety of relatives and workers, including Mukund, the devoted servant, who adds to the chaos.

Guests often come and go, including a food-loving poet and an old friend, a judge, both of whom contribute to the lively atmosphere. The events of the household — from Doctor Boro Mama’s medical dilemmas to Professor Mejo Mama’s antics with the kirtan party, from the poet’s forgetfulness to the judge’s bicycle issues — are infused with humor and absurdity.

Amidst the humor, the novel introduces a sense of impending danger and suspense, as the seemingly ordinary household is thrust into a new predicament. The mystery and unexpected twists keep the reader intrigued while the characters’ everyday lives bring a charm to the narrative.

"Agyatbas" is a delightful tale of chaos and fun, blending whimsical storytelling with heartfelt moments, all wrapped in a cozy, engaging narrative.
