Book Description

Bhalo Manush presents the story of Sudipta Chattopadhyay, a professor and writer steeped in left-wing ideals, struggling to navigate a world where the influence of right-wing politics is on the rise. The novel delves into his complicated relationships with family, friends, and colleagues. Despite his academic success, Sudipta faces personal turmoil, especially in his interactions with his wife Aditi and their son Alekhya, who is pursuing a PhD abroad. Sudipta’s life takes a dramatic turn as an old flame, Bela, re-enters his life, leading to unforeseen consequences for him and his family.

At the heart of the novel is Sudipta’s inherent desire to do good, which ultimately leads him to face a growing sense of isolation and disillusionment. When a scandal arises involving his colleague Ratnabali, Sudipta finds himself alienated from both his family and society. His once-pristine image as a "good person" begins to crumble. The novel explores themes of personal sacrifice, family dynamics, the complexities of love and relationships, and the constant conflict between selflessness and individual desires.
