About the Author

Shirshendu Mukhopadhyay was born on 2 November 1935 in Dhaka District, Bikrampur, now in Bangladesh. His childhood was spent in various places due to his father's job in the railways, leading to a nomadic life across India and Bangladesh. Mukhopadhyay's literary career spans several decades, during which he became one of the most important and revered voices in modern Bengali literature.

His first novel was ‘Ghurnpoka’, and his first children's novel was ‘Manojder Adivut Bari’. He was awarded the Vidyasagar Award in 1985 for his contribution to children's literature and won the prestigious Ananda Award and Sahitya Akademi Award in 1989 for his novel ‘Manabjamina’.

Mukhopadhyay’s writing is often praised for its philosophical depth, nuanced characters, and the way it blends everyday life with deeper existential themes. He has been widely recognized for his literary contributions in both adult and children's literature, making him a versatile and celebrated figure in Bengali literature.
