Book Description

In this sixth volume of Upanyas Samagra, the renowned author Suchitra Bhattacharya brings together seven of her powerful novels that have deeply impacted Bengali literature. Over her two-decade long career as a writer, she crafted stories that boldly unveiled the complexities of society, especially those relating to the lives of women. Known for her humanitarian approach, her novels often reflect her profound sensitivity to the struggles of everyday life, social issues, and the deep-seated emotions of her characters.

Her writing cuts through the facades of middle-class life, shedding light on issues like personal dilemmas, gender, and human connection. Though she often depicted the women’s experience in an intimate and empathetic manner, her works are ultimately universal, focusing on the human condition with an emphasis on solitude, alienation, and existential crises. In this volume, we find stories that deal with both personal turmoil and societal conflicts, weaving emotion and reflection together in intricate and moving narratives.
