About the Author
Ramapada Chowdhury was born on December 28, 1922, in the rail town of Kharagpur. He completed his MA in English Literature from Presidency College and later went on to pursue a career in writing, alongside publishing essays, autobiographies, and even a remarkable collection of poems.
His literary contributions were widely recognized, and he received several prestigious awards throughout his career, including the Sahitya Akademi Award in 1988, the Jagattarini Gold Medal from Calcutta University in 1987, and the Ravindra Award in 1971. Additionally, he received the Ananda Award in 1963 and the Sharatchandra Award in 1997, among others.
His works have been translated into multiple languages, including Hindi, Malayalam, Gujarati, and Tamil. Notably, his novel ‘Kharij’ was published in English, and his stories have been included in "Literary Olympians", a collection published in the United States. Ramapada Chowdhury remains one of the most celebrated figures in modern Bengali literature, admired for his narrative versatility and his profound psychological insights into human behavior.
His works, including the English translations, continue to inspire readers worldwide, cementing his legacy as one of India's finest storytellers.
