About the Author

Samaresh Majumdar, born on March 10, 1944, grew up in the tea gardens of Duars, a region that deeply influenced his sensibilities and storytelling. He moved to Kolkata in 1960, where he pursued his education at Scottish Church College, earning a degree in Bengali honors, followed by a Master's degree from Calcutta University.

Initially involved in group theatre, Majumdar transitioned to writing stories and plays. His first story was published in 1967 in Desh magazine, and his debut novel, "Dour" (The Race), was serialized in 1975 in the same magazine.

His notable works include "Dour", "Banchibish", "Ujan Ganga", "Sowar", "Kalbela", and more. He has received several prestigious awards for his literary contributions, including the Ananda Award in 1982 and the Sahitya Akademi Award in 1984 for his novel Kalbela.

A recipient of multiple accolades, his stories have often been adapted for cinema. His contribution to contemporary Bengali fiction is immense, and his works continue to be loved by readers both in India and abroad.
