Book Summary:

Santosh Kumar Ghosh, a pioneering figure in Bengali journalism, often overshadowed his own literary identity. However, from the very beginning of his literary career, his writing exhibited a distinct style, filled with compassion and sharp social insight. Unlike Bankim Chandra's grandeur, his prose carries a subtle, artistic depth, making it both profound and emotionally engaging.

His novels provide a detailed chronicle of mid-20th century Kolkata, particularly the Second World War era and post-independence period. The lives of the Bengali middle class—their struggles, aspirations, and disillusionments—are beautifully depicted in his works.
