About the Book
This comprehensive volume presents an in-depth sociological exploration of North East India, a region comprising the Seven Sister States—Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Tripura—and the state of Sikkim. Home to more than 220 ethnic groups and dialects, this region is rich in diversity yet marked by shared social, political, and economic experiences.
The book fills a significant gap in the literature by analyzing the people and problems of North East India from a sociological lens. The 20 chapters in this volume cover a wide range of themes including state profiles, constitutional provisions, demography, education disparity, urbanization, adolescent and youth development, gender status, disability, crimes, witch hunting, quality of life, autonomous governance, and other pressing social issues.
Drawing from both macro and micro perspectives, this book is a holistic effort to understand the complex social fabric of the region. It blends empirical data with analytical insights, making it a valuable resource for students, researchers, academicians, and policymakers.
