About the Book
Caste-Based Exclusion: Perspectives and Approaches for Amendments is a comprehensive exploration of caste-based exclusion in India, highlighting its multi-dimensional and deeply ingrained nature within the social fabric. The book presents a nuanced understanding of the caste system from the perspective of those who are most affected by it—the Dalits.
While previous discourses have largely focused on caste from an external or upper-caste perspective, this volume aims to provide an insider's view, examining the daily struggles, marginalization, and deprivation that Dalits face. The book spans a wide range of issues, including academic discrimination, caste-based violence, and exclusion in various sectors such as agriculture, education, and economic empowerment.
Contributed by senior scholars from diverse regions of India, including Uttar Pradesh, Assam, Manipur, Haryana, and Maharashtra, the book sheds light on the prevalence and magnitude of caste-based exclusion. It also suggests possible amendments and solutions for addressing this entrenched social problem.
This book will serve as an invaluable resource for students and researchers in the fields of sociology, minority studies, and development studies, offering a deeper insight into the complex phenomenon of caste-based exclusion.
