About the Book
This book explores the emergence and ideology of the Ambedkarite movement in Rajasthan, a significant socio-political development that began in the 1930s. Inspired by Dr. Baba Saheb Ambedkar's fight for minority rights, the movement has had a profound impact on Dalits, a marginalized group in India. The study, based on extensive fieldwork and interviews, traces the Dalit assertion and grassroots activism over time. It delves into the role of Dr. Ambedkar's speeches, his influence on Dalit communities, and their conversion to Buddhism.
While acknowledging the achievements of the Ambedkarite movement, the book also examines its limitations and the challenges faced by Dalit communities. It provides insights into Dalits' efforts to break free from the grip of ritual power in Hinduism and highlights their progress in Rajasthan. This is one of the few scholarly works that focuses on the Ambedkarite movement in Rajasthan and will be valuable for those studying Dalit issues, sociology, political science, and anthropology.
