About the Book
This edited volume presents a comprehensive and multidimensional exploration of urbanization in India, viewed through a socio-spatial lens. Anirban Mukherjee and Susham Biswas bring together a collection of scholarly chapters that address key urban challenges, innovative interventions, and the nuanced transformations that shape the urban experience in contemporary India. With diverse themes ranging from smart cities to governance, environmental sustainability, and geospatial technologies, this book captures the rapidly evolving urban landscape in all its complexity.
The chapters provide a kaleidoscopic view of urban life, tackling the implications of urban sprawl, the rise of the creative class, and the penetration of electric vehicle schemes into city planning. Topics such as noise pollution, city gas distribution in smart cities, and urban geospatial studies add cutting-edge relevance to current academic and policy discussions. Contributors use interdisciplinary approaches, combining insights from sociology, geography, computer science, and environmental studies to analyze the impacts of urbanism on individual lives and public infrastructure.
This book is not only a valuable reference for students and researchers of urban sociology, public policy, environmental science, and geoinformatics, but also an insightful read for city planners, administrators, and technology experts interested in sustainable urban solutions. Its engaging perspectives and fresh takes on unexplored dimensions of Indian urbanization make it a vital contribution to contemporary urban studies.
