About the Book:
The social thought of Mahatma Gandhi is a comprehensive and philosophically rigorous system, grounded in well-defined premises and logically derived conclusions. Though primarily contextualized within Indian society, Gandhi’s ideas resonate with universal relevance, addressing themes of justice, equity, and social transformation.
This book by Malabika Pande meticulously explores the evolution and foundations of Gandhi’s social philosophy. It examines his vision of the ideal society, his understanding of contemporary social structures, and his profound analysis of the challenges and pathways of social change in India. Through a systematic approach, the book culminates in the construction of a Gandhian theory of social change—an essential contribution to both historical and contemporary discourses.
Positioned in the context of renewed interest in Gandhian principles, the book stands out by delving into lesser-explored aspects of Gandhi’s thought. It reflects on the multi-dimensional nature of his personality, ideas, and actions, making it a significant addition to Gandhian literature. Ideal for scholars of sociology, history, political science, and Gandhian studies, this volume encourages readers to re-engage with the relevance of Gandhi’s vision in today’s world.
