About the Book

China and India: Comparative Perspectives on Economic Transformation and Social Change offers a detailed analysis of the profound social and cultural changes in the two emerging economies, China and India. Both countries have undergone significant economic reforms, with China initiating changes in 1978 and India in 1991. These reforms have triggered rapid economic growth, but this transformation is not isolated to the economy alone—social institutions and culture also play crucial roles in shaping these processes. This volume explores a wide range of issues in both societies, from economic topics such as labor markets, migration, and regional inequalities, to critical social issues like gender bias, ethnic minorities, religious life, and housing for low-income urban migrants. The essays provide a comparative understanding of the social, economic, and cultural dynamics of both countries, offering insights that contribute to a better perception and learning from each other's experiences. This book is a valuable resource for students, researchers, and policymakers seeking to deepen their understanding of these two great nations and their evolving societies.
