About the Shawl
In Bengal, shawls have been in fashion since the early 17th century. The most prized woven shawls were figurative and made on the complex Naksha loom. Square shawls with elaborate borders and konia kalka (corner mango pattern), which imitated Kashmiri shawls, were traditionally woven in black and white for the Bengali aristocracy. A pair of such shawls was even woven for Maharaja Bahadur Jatindra Mohan Tagore. Biswa Bangla reintroduces the famous Jamdani Shawls that were once the pride of Bengal.
