About the Book
Women's Participation in Forest Management explores the intersection of gender, environmentalism, and sustainable resource management in India. Written from a feminist environmentalist perspective and drawing on the capability approach, the book argues that enhancing women’s involvement in natural resource management not only boosts the efficiency and sustainability of institutions but also empowers women.
This research emphasizes the need for women to strengthen their bargaining power by overcoming the traditional gender division of labor and property rights. By increasing their role and participation in decision-making processes related to forest management, women can improve both the effectiveness of the forest regeneration and protection efforts, as well as their own socio-economic position.
The field-based study focuses on the vital role of Panchayati Raj Institutions in forest management and highlights the critical importance of women’s participation in these processes. Through its detailed exploration of gender dynamics in resource management, the book offers valuable insights for social scientists, NGOs, program managers, feminist researchers, and activists.
