About the Book
The world is grappling with several interrelated systemic issues, including growing income inequality, ecological limits being reached, and a crisis in democracy in many countries. At the heart of these problems lies the current state of the economy.
While these challenges may seem insurmountable, this book provides hope. It explores how ordinary citizens can "take back the economy" through a strategy combining local and global actions. The central concept is "social business," a business model that emphasizes “blended value creation” to drive systemic societal change.
The book presents case studies, outcomes from collaborative action research, and conceptual frameworks. These chapters are a result of joint work with activists, social entrepreneurs, social investors, and development organizations across four continents: Africa, Asia, Europe, and Latin America. The editor and contributors aim to enrich the conversation about strategies for achieving global social justice.
