About the Book
This volume presents interdisciplinary perspectives on the crucial intersection of gender, law, and health. Aimed at scholars, professionals, and researchers, the book examines the gender-specific issues relating to legal frameworks and health policies, covering global perspectives on these matters. It reflects on the United Nations' efforts to eliminate gender discrimination and promote gender equality, with particular attention to legal rights, health strategies, and empowerment programs that have been adopted worldwide. The book takes a human rights perspective, emphasizing the role of law in safeguarding women's rights in India and other parts of the world.
The book is divided into two key themes: gender and law and gender and health, providing case studies, research papers, and theoretical insights. Topics like female foeticide, maternity benefits, and gender dynamics in health are addressed in depth. Various articles explore the implementation of laws across different countries, such as Brazil's Maria da Penha Law and India's Gender Stereotyping and Legislation, as well as health-related studies, such as the gender dynamics of tuberculosis treatment and mental health impacts from political violence.
