About the Book
This volume presents an interdisciplinary examination of gender and work from both Indian and global perspectives. Gender is recognized as a social construct influencing not only personal identities but also societal roles, particularly in the context of labor and work. The book provides a comprehensive exploration of how gender operates at various levels of society, affecting women's participation in the workforce and their economic empowerment.
The chapters span a diverse range of topics, including gender equity, career choices, women's livelihoods, gender disability, and economic empowerment. It also critiques existing theories of kinship and gender relations, as seen in the examination of matrilineal societies, and explores issues like prostitution, domestic work, gendered roles in tourism, and the impact of neoliberalism on women's work in India.
This collection of essays is valuable for professionals, scholars, and researchers interested in the evolving debates and practices around gender and work, offering fresh insights into how gender equality can be achieved in various sectors. The book also tackles real-life challenges faced by women in the workforce, providing both academic perspectives and practical solutions for societal change.
