About the Book
Urbanization is a global phenomenon, but its environmental impacts are particularly evident in developing nations such as India. While urbanization has positively affected income levels, employment, and economic production, it has simultaneously led to environmental degradation, especially in cities and towns across India. This book explores the relationship between urbanization and environmental degradation, focusing on the quality of life (QOL) in urban centers.
The book examines the dynamics of urbanization, environmental degradation, and QOL through an in-depth study of select cities in Rajasthan with populations over one lakh. It analyzes various aspects, including:
-
Trends of urbanization
-
Degradation of environment
-
Spatial pattern of pollution in urban areas
-
Spatial pattern of QOL in urban centers
-
Levels of QOL
-
Problems and planning for sustainable urban development.
This book serves as a resource for urban planners, geographers, sociologists, and policy makers. It aligns with India’s development agenda and will be particularly useful for smart city planning and policy formulation.
