About the Book
Land degradation and desertification have become significant environmental challenges in recent years, largely due to both natural and human-induced processes. These issues render land infertile or unsuitable for agricultural use and, in some cases, even uninhabitable. The book aims to deepen the theoretical and practical understanding of these issues, focusing on how they affect the global landscape.
The volume includes 26 scientific papers presented at the 22nd Conference of the Institute of Indian Geographers, and the International Geographical Union Commission Meeting on Land Degradation and Desertification. These papers cover various geographical regions—arid, coastal, humid, Mediterranean, mountainous, periglacial, and tropical—offering case studies from Argentina, Bangladesh, India, Mongolia, Nepal, Spain, and Zambia. Topics include biogeography, environmental components, floods, land use, gully erosion and management, human impacts on terrain, social and economic factors, soil geography, landscape ecology, and land and water resources.
This comprehensive work will be valuable for students and researchers in fields like geography, geology, environmental science, agriculture, planning, and regional development.
