About the Book

This remarkable volume presents, for the first time in English, the devotional translation of the monumental commentary Shri Subodhini by Mahaprabhu Shri Vallabhacharya, focusing on the teachings and divine leelas of Lord Shri Krishna, drawn from the Maha Bhagavata Purana. Written with intense spiritual sentiment (bhavartha), the work provides a deep insight into the inner meanings and devotional content of the original Sanskrit verses.

The tenth canto of the Shri Bhagavatam, which is held in the highest esteem by Vaishnavas, is dedicated to the divine actions of Shri Krishna, depicting his supreme role as the Purushothama, the Supreme Lord. In this volume, seven chapters of the tenth canto are carefully explored, including the stories of Kuvalayapeedam's redemption, Krishna's entry into the arena, his interactions with the Gopis, and his visits to the homes of Kubja and Akrura.

The original Sanskrit verses are presented alongside their English translations, with commentaries from revered saints like Shri Gosainji, Shri Vallabhji, and Shri Laloo Bhatji, ensuring a comprehensive understanding of the sacred text. This work serves as an invaluable resource for anyone seeking to explore the profound spiritual teachings of Shri Vallabhacharya and the devotional traditions of Lord Krishna.

About the Author

Ramanan, the author of this translation, was born in a village founded by Adi Shankaracharya and initiated into the study of the Vedas and other sacred texts from a young age. Blessed by his Guru, Shri Ubhaya Vedanta Srirangam Sampath Kumara Swami, Ramanan’s journey of bhakti deepened after meeting Shri Shyam Manohar Goswamijee, a direct descendant of Shri Vallabhacharya. Through their guidance, Ramanan undertook the monumental task of translating Shri Subodhini, a commentary that, in the words of Srimad Andavan of Srirangam, cannot be fully translated due to its immense spiritual depth. This work is presented as a humble attempt to receive the divine grace of Lord Krishna.
