About the Author

  • Sunil Gangopadhyay was born on 7th September 1934 in Faridpur, Bangladesh, and his education was in Kolkata. A prominent figure in Bengali literature, Sunil Gangopadhyay’s career began with poetry, and he went on to write novels and essays.
  • He founded the literary magazine Krittibas and was a key figure in the Bengali literary community. His debut novel, Atmaprakash, was widely recognized, and he received several prestigious awards, including the Bunkim Award in 1983 and the Sahitya Akademi Award in 1985.
  • Known for his literary versatility, Gangopadhyay wrote under several pseudonyms, including Nil Lohit, Sanatan Pathak, and Nil Upadhyay. He passed away on 23rd October 2012, leaving behind a legacy of profound and timeless literary works.
