About the Book

In Natun Premer Kabita, Subodh Sarkar defies his own hesitation about writing love poems, crafting verses that dive deep into the essence of love.

  • The poems in this collection explore timeless and ageless love, portraying its fleeting yet profound nature.
  • Sarkar’s vivid imagery and heartfelt expressions invite readers to ponder the complexities of love and loss.
  • The poignant line “Tir kokhono beriye gele phire na aar tire” resonates as a recurring theme of unreturning emotions and undying connections.

Through these poems, Sarkar reminds us that love is elusive yet omnipresent, symbolized in something as simple as "a lone earring."

About the Author

Subodh Sarkar was born on October 28, 1958, in Krishnanagar. A refugee family's son, Sarkar overcame early hardships to become a professor of English literature at City College.

  • His poetry has taken him around the world, from America and France to Russia and Taiwan.
  • Sarkar has been honored with the Sahitya Akademi Award (2013) and the Gangadhar Meher National Award for Poetry, among others.
  • He edited the journal Bhashanagar with his late wife, poet Mallika Sengupta, and served as the first president of the West Bengal Poetry Academy.
